READ MY STORY
Mary Beth Rohaly grew up riding pony hunters. She won the state Pony Medal Finals, three overall championships and two reserve championships competing with her pony Right On. She learned to braid manes and tails as a member of a local pony club. Later, she was fortunate to find incredible mentors; professional braiders who taught her their secrets. She perfected her braiding skills. As a professional braider she has braided thousands of horses and founded Braid Secrets to share her hard-earned knowledge with other equestrians. She is featured as a braiding expert on Jane Savoie’s Dressage Mentor website.
Ms. Rohaly has provided braiding tutelage to individuals as well as taught braiding clinics. Her focus has been to teach riders how to braid or improve their braids so that their high quality braids enhance the appearance of their horse in the show ring. Her students share their experiences with you on the Success Stories page. You can even read what one judge had to say about their braids!
Ms. Rohaly has competed at dressage and hunt seat shows. She is currently an avid dressage rider and has over four decades of experience riding, showing, and braiding horses.
On being a frugal equestrian….
“The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything but they make the most of everything that comes their way.”
This quote sums up my experience with horses for the last 40 years and has been the key to really enjoying my passion for riding. I was fortunate to be a winning pony hunter rider and to later become a dressage rider that learned to train her own horses. One day a friend asked me “You don’t have a ton of money or the most talented horse but you’ve made the most progress with your horse of anyone I know. Plus, you’ve done it with more than one horse….How do you do that?” That conversation made me realize I should share with other riders what I’ve learned about progressing a horse and getting the most satisfaction for my money. In my blog at Braid Secrets I share my braiding and equestrian knowledge so that your journey with your horse can be highly satisfying no matter what your budget is.
